Description

An examination of the modern Japanese novel as a form which both affirms and resists the form of the European novel. Readings explore the particular problems of the Japanese novel in the context of modernization, westernization, and colonialism.
  • Prerequisite: Any course in literature or cultural studies above the introductory level, or permission of instructor
