Description

Survey of the history of Inuit presence and lifeways in Inuit Nunaat, the transnational Inuit homeland spanning Arctic/subarctic Greenland (Denmark); Canada; Alaska (U.S.); and Chukotka (Russia). Inuit health prior to European contact; examination of colonialism by European entities; transmission of infectious diseases and effects on Inuit health; development of healthcare systems serving Inuit in the 20th century medical transportation as a primary treatment methodology; Inuit role in health innovations such as midwifery (Nunavik,Canada) and Community HealthAide/Practitioners (Alaska).
  • Restrictions: Open to students enrolled in a McGill University graduate program or permission of the instructor.
