Description

A variety of issues significant to the development of German cultural and intellectual life.
  • Topic for 2004-05: Marx, Freud, Benjamin: (Re-) Thinking Modernity This course examines the speculative tenets of Marx (alienation and commodity capitalism), Freud (libido, subconscious, and Reality Principle), and Benjamin (language, media, and redemption) as a basis for contemporary cultural criticism.
