Description

Examination of climate change as a cultural, political, andhistorical process. Drawing on anthropology, history, political economy, and environmental studies, it explores how climate change is understood, governed, and debated across different societies and scales. The relationships between environmental change, economic systems, political institutions, and social inequalities, as well as the ways climate futures are imagined and contested. Situating climate change within broader debates in international development and global environmental governance.
  • Prerequisites: A 200 or 300 level course related to International Development, or permission of the instructor.
  • Restrictions: Not open to students who have taken INTD 498 when the topic was "Climate Change, Culture and Power" in Fall 2025.
