Exploration of environmental issues as reflected in literature from the Bible to the present. As modern science, technology and medicine gave human beings increasing control over the environment, the harmful consequences and accompanying moral questions became major concerns, and is reflected in literature, including Blake, Dickens, Gaskell, Mendele, Ibsen, Bialik, and Chekhov.
