Description

A survey of notable lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer composers and musicians in both art music and popular music, and an exploration of musical meaning from queer perspectives, covering topics such as coded expression, subcultural music-making, the value of mainstream visibility, and minority versus 'universal' aesthetics.
  • Prerequisite: MUAR 201 or MUAR 211 or MUTH 101 or MUHL 211 or permission of the instructor.
  • Restrictions: Open to all undergraduate students except those in a B.Mus. or L.Mus. program; not open to students who have taken MUAR 399.
