Description

This integrated health sciences course will focus on the study of the pathophysiologic alterations in health across the lifespan, looking at selected diseases and pharmacotherapy that are most prevalent in North America. It will explore concepts of disease causation: acquired, immune, infectious, carcinogenic, genetic, and biochemical alterations in health in selected body systems with an emphasis on etiology, cellular and systemic pathophysiologic responses, clinical manifestations, diagnostic, and pharmacological treatment modalities. A focus on drug mechanisms of action, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, patient safety and professional nursing responsibilities in drug administration will also be covered. Hematologic, musculoskeletal, cardiac, neurological integumentary and multiple interacting systems with an emphasis on etiology, cellular and systemic pathophysiologic responses, clinical manifestations, diagnostic, and treatment modalities will be reviewed.
