Description
Introduction to the laws, policies, and norms that govern institutions and individuals within Canada’s federal penitentiary system, inviting reflection through the lenses of both reform and abolition. This includes attention to issues like security classification, discipline, solitary confinement, transfers, voting rights, prison labour, privacy, motherhood, Indigenous approaches within institutions, and conditional release; also to forms of redress such as the grievance system, judicial review, and habeas corpus.
- Restrictions: Not open to students who have taken LAWG 517 when topic was "Prison Law, Policy, and Reform".
