Description

An introduction into the broad field of addictions with a focus on drug dependence. Students will have an opportunity to critically reflect and analyse the multiple approaches and models to treating addictions. Students will be provided with concepts and practical applications to screen, assess, evaluate, and intervene with multiple populations over the life span. Students will be exposed to different service providers in the area of addictions. Focus on a practical approach will highlight throughout the course with the intention of providing students with the necessary insight to respond within multiple settings. Perspectives on specific populations will be elaborated and key concepts and approaches to understanding the complexity of each. Students will have the opportunity to further their understanding of the factors and consequences of addiction over a life span as well as the impact on society.
  • Restrictions: Open to U3 B.S.W. and M.S.W. students, or by permission of the instructor. Not open to students who have taken SWRK 498 or SWRK 649 when topic was "Addictions".
