About the Faculty of Engineering
Since offering its first lectures in Applied Sciences in 1855, the Faculty of Engineering has grown into one of the world’s leading engineering and design communities. The Faculty is home to approximately 3,500 undergraduate students and 1,200 graduate students in a wide variety of academic programs.
Our mission as a Faculty is to empower our community to learn, co-create, and drive innovation across engineering, architecture, and urban planning—advancing sustainability, the built environment, manufacturing, health, and information technology.
Undergraduate students join a vibrant and diverse learning environment where bold ideas, hands‑on experience, and real‑world problem solving come together. Whether through internships, co‑ops, design teams, research opportunities, or experiential learning, students gain the skills and confidence to contribute to our vision of leading an open engineering culture where co‑creation and care guide how engineers, architects, and urban planners shape more livable, sustainable futures.

Undergraduate programs leading to professional bachelor's degrees are offered across all Engineering departments. These accredited programs prepare graduates for entry into a wide range of industries and for membership in their relevant professional orders. The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture offers a non‑professional undergraduate degree for students interested in related fields that do not require professional licensure. Note: The new Bachelor of Global Engineering program is not currently accredited.
Academic programs include both required and complementary courses. Required courses establish the core principles needed to adapt to evolving technologies throughout a career, while complementary courses allow students to explore specialized interests in greater depth.
Engineering students may also participate in the Engineering Internship Program which offers four-, eight-, twelve-, or sixteen-month paid work terms. Co‑op programs in Mining Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Software Engineering embed work-integrated learning into the curriculum. For more info, visit the Internships and Co-ops page.
All undergraduate curricula are designed to support both immediate career readiness and future academic pathways. Students planning to pursue graduate studies—at McGill or elsewhere—receive a strong foundation for advanced work. Professional degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning are offered at the master’s level.
Graduate and postgraduate programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees are offered in all departments and schools within the Faculty, offering a wide range of areas of specialization, including the professional master’s programs in Architecture and Urban Planning.

The McGill Engineering Student Centre integrates the Student Affairs Office (academic advising and peer tutoring services) and the Engineering Career Centre (career and internship support).
