Summer Studies in Management
If you want to make up deficiencies in your background or accelerate progress in your degree, you may do so by taking summer courses at McGill or at another institution.
Each summer, from early May to July, some core and elective courses are offered by the Desautels Faculty of Management for full credit. They are available to Management students, and to students from other faculties who have the necessary course prerequisites. Please note that McGill's course offerings are not guaranteed from year to year.
Information on summer courses is available from:

You are permitted to take 6 credits in any one summer period (May to July) due to the intensive nature of the offerings. Should you require additional credits, you must consult with the B.Com. Student Affairs Office.
If you want to pursue summer courses at another institution, you must complete an application for an Independent Study Away in Minerva before taking the course(s). Credit will be granted for such courses only if approval for the Study Away and course equivalency approval in McGill's Course equivalency Database has been obtained in advance from the B.Com. Student Affairs Office. The Transfer Credit Assessment form in Minerva must also be completed before the course starts. A course that overlaps with material already completed in your program will not receive credit approval.
Residency and online credit rules also apply to courses completed through an Independent Study Away.
The courses must be completed in the summer term and cannot be extended into the following term. All transcripts must be received from the host school for credit to be processed by September 15 for Summer ISA. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange for their official, final transcript to be sent to McGill upon completion of the course(s). For more information about transferring credits, see Transfer Credit and Advanced Standing and consult a B.Com. Academic Advisor for guidance.
All students who do not register in the summer course(s) for an approved Study Away term must write to the B.Com. Student Affairs office to officially cancel their Study Away request. Failure to comply with the policies may result in no credit being granted. Students cannot be enrolled in courses offered by McGill University at the same time as they are approved for a Study away term. Rules about short-term summer programs vary by institution and by year. Normally, short-term summer programs are not approved for Study Away or credit unless the program is offered by an exchange partner school. Consult the B.Com. Student Affairs Office for the most up-to-date rules and policies. Students must complete the Travel Registry for each Independent Study Away or risk the cancellation of their exchange.
Students taking courses under the Quebec Inter-University Transfer Agreement (IUT) should consult the B.Com. office IUT link. All policies regarding courses taken away from McGill also apply to IUT courses. The request for approval of course(s) under the IUT must be made well in advance as there are several levels of approval. Approval from the B.Com. Office and the McGill Registrar’s office does not guarantee a space in the course.
