Degree Requirements for the Faculty of Science


Each student in the Faculty of Science must be aware of the Faculty regulations as stated in this publication and on the McGill, Science, and SOUSA websites.

Academic advisors and the SOUSA team are always available assist you with your degree and program planning and to help you make informed academic choices. However, the ultimate responsibility for completeness and correctness of course selection and registration; for compliance with, and completion of, program and degree requirements; and for the observance of regulations and deadlines, rests with you. It is your responsibility to seek guidance from SOUSA if in any doubt; misunderstanding or misapprehension will not be accepted as cause for dispensation from any regulation, deadline, program, or degree requirement.

The Faculty of Science offers multiple undergraduate degrees, each with their own requirements:

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

To be eligible for a B.Sc. degree, you must fulfill all requirements as indicated below:


Bachelor of Arts & Science (B.A. & Sc.)

The B.A. & Sc. is jointly offered by the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science. However, the Science Office for Undergraduate Student Advising (SOUSA) and the Associate Dean, Student Affairs (Science) are responsible for degree advising and student affairs matters for students pursuing a B.A. & Sc. degree.


Diploma (Dip.) in Environment

This undergraduate program is for students with an undergraduate degree (B.Sc., B.A., or equivalent) who wish to enrich or reorient their training. It is a one-year program if taken full-time.

  • Program requirements 
  • Residency requirement: 30 credits completed at McGill
  • All required and complementary courses used to fulfil program requirements must be completed with a grade of C or better

Diploma (Dip.) in Meteorology

The Diploma in Meteorology is an intensive, one-year program in theoretical and applied meteorology to B.Sc. or B.Eng. graduates of suitable standing in physics, applied mathematics or other appropriate disciplines, leading to a Diploma in Meteorology.

  • All required and complementary courses used to fulfil program requirements must be completed with a grade of C or better

B.Sc./M.Sc. Track

This track is an early-admission process that allows strong McGill undergraduates to move directly into a M.Sc. or M.A. program offered by a department in the Faculty of Science after completing their B.Sc.
