Description

Introduction to the history of science in 19th century Britain through major turning points: the transition of authority from gentlemen of science to professional scientists (and the radicals in between); the publication and reception of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species; and the democratization of access to knowledge as seen in the contributions of marginalized figures during the industrial and information revolutions.
  • Restrictions: Open only to newly admitted students in U0 or U1, who may take only one first year seminar [FYS].
  • Students who register for more than one FYS will be obliged to withdraw from all but one of them.
