Registration

  • It is your responsibility to register on time. To avoid delays in graduation and program completion, it's crucial to register on time during the registration period. Keep in mind that space is limited.

  • Priority registration for Fall and Winter courses will begin in the last week of May for returning BCom students. Priority registration in Management courses for Summer opens in early March. Exact dates may be obtained from the Important Dates for Students site.

  • All courses have limited enrolment. BCom students who are unable to register for required or complementary courses that they need in order to graduate on time should submit a copy of the Closed Course Request Form to the BCom Student Affairs Office as soon as they have completed their registration. They should not wait to get a seat on their own if it is a degree requirementWaiting until the add/drop period for advising or adding a requirement to graduation is likely to lead to a delay in graduation. Refer to Important Dates for Students for more info.

  • BCom students are not permitted to take courses offered through the School of Continuing Studies for credit toward their degree.

  • It is the responsibility of the student to verify that a course will earn credit.  Consult the list of restricted electives for courses that are not approved for credit.  While Minerva may allow you to add the course, this does not mean that credit will be granted.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to verify and avoid uncredited course overlape.g., multiple statistics or math courses covering similar material cannot both be taken for credit .

  • New students must select their area(s) of specialization online using Minervabefore they are permitted to register for courses. The program options available are found in the Change your Curriculum module of the Student Menu. Please note that this can be changed in future terms if you change your mindStudents who do not declare their program in Minerva will be blocked from adding most management courses and get minor or program restriction errors.

  • Full-time students must register for courses using Minerva. Additional information for new students is distributed at the time of admission and is also available on the faculty website's Newly admitted BCom students section, as well as the Student Records website. Information for returning students and part-time students is available from the BCom Student Affairs OfficeThe Major and Concentration Fair for U1 students is held annually in March to help with your decisionAll announcements about registration for Summer and Fall/Winter will be sent to students in the BCom HubWatch for alerts from the BCom Hub in myCourses for all important updates and dates.

  • If you want to change the courses for which you are registered within the add/drop period, you must do so through Minerva.

  • If you want to withdraw from a course after the add/drop deadline, you must do so using Minerva by the withdrawal deadline. A grade of W will be indicated on the transcript, which does not affect your GPA. Approval to withdraw after the withdrawal deadline will be granted only in exceptional circumstances. Students are required to first meet with an academic advisor to review their situation and may be asked to submit a written request for such consideration, accompanied by substantial documentation, if they have grounds for exceptional late withdrawal(s).

  • When your record is verified, any courses taken that violate the degree regulations will be flagged after the end of the course change period as “not for credit towards the B.Com.”. As a result, your expected date of graduation may be delayed. If you have questions about excluded credits, please contact an Academic Advisor.

  • Newly Admitted Student registration advising.

Most new students receive their admissions decision by the end of May and are contacted by the university Campus Life and Engagement office with registration assistance and information before they register in early to mid-JuneYou should attend a virtual registration session offered by academic advisors in early June and in-person Advising and Orientation sessions on campus before the start of classesIt is important that students consult the course catalogue and the BCom Newly Admitted website and familiarize themselves with all program requirements and policies.  Academic advising will be available from May to the start of classes for newly admitted students using a booking form posted on the Newly Admitted Students websiteFrom the start of the first term, you will be added to the BCom Hub in myCourses where you can start book advising appointments using BCom Insight.

It is important to use your official McGill email from the time you accept your offer of admission, so that you do not miss important information related to your degree.
